Love Your Neighbor
This was Jesus' 2nd greatest commandment. (The 1st was to love Him. Matt 22:37-39) It's also CCHC's mission. Who are our neighbors? It's the new immigrant trying to adjust to living in a new environment. It's a child who is looking for love. It's a drug addicted man who desires to be freed from his bondage. It's the tired parents with an autistic child who have no support. Here are a few:
XIU CHAN CHEN
The CCHC English teacher is full of love and patience. I am a senior and am forgetful. With her optimistic attitude and lively teaching method, I have learned English with ease and passed the citizenship exam the first time I took it. I am not a Christian, but I love to come and learn English at CCHC.
XIAO YAN
I met some new friends when I participated in a workshop at the Herald Family Rebuilding Center (HFRC) in August 2008. Because of their care and acceptance, I felt loved. My husband had an affair but I wasn’t able to communicate with the lawyer in court because of the language barrier. My own lawyer was reluctant to fight for me to receive alimony, so I turned to HFRC for assistance. A HFRC staff went to court with and translated for me and I received alimony and my lawyer fees back. I had lost faith in humanity but gained it back through the staff and friends of HFRC. Because of their care and help, I experienced love that does not ask for anything in return. Even though I do not fully understand who God is, I believe in Jesus because all these good people believe in Him and I was baptized in April 2009. I am willing to learn more about God and be a good daughter for our Heavenly Father.
YAN ZI HUANG
I am 11 years old who was abandoned as baby and picked up by a lady. After she died, her son adopted me as his daughter. He was poor and scavenged for things. His nephew, Si Qi, moved in 2 years ago and we all lived in a simple and primitive room. In August 2009, Si Qi and I came to the Sanming Children Village (China). I am very glad that I can come here because there are many children I can play with and a house parent who loves me. I wrote to my foster father, “Everyone here likes me and my cousin. I am very happy here.”
ANNE XIA
Being part of Herald Volleyball was something I never expected. I love to play volleyball but I wasn’t good at it. When I joined 2 years ago, I felt out of place since I was the smallest and youngest. But, I was accepted by the coaches. I enjoyed how the coaches gave their time and helped us, not just in volleyball. We had small groups so we could talk and get to know each other. The coaches they made the program fun and receiving encouragement motivated each of us to do better, too. And I was reintroduced to Christ in a way I never knew. I have gained volleyball and communication skills, learned teamwork, and most of all, gained a faith that Christ is making a difference in my life.
YU XIONG CHEN
Yu Xiong Chen of CCHC's Oakland Restaurant Fellowship describes himself as a sinner who eats, drinks, solicits sex and gambles. For the sake of quitting these addictions, he and his wife came to the USA and worked in a restaurant. He was able to quit his addictions to eating, drinking and sex. However, he could not quit gambling and his wife divorced him. One day, Brother Lam brought him to a fellowship and he was transformed and his spirit was freed. The gambling addiction stopped immediately. He said with excitement, “The rest of my life has been saved!” He has tasted God’s kindness, righteousness, power and faithfulness and has become a new person!
